Why We Need Them?

In this world,it's all about comparison. In the society, there's only wrong or right.
But how do people tell the difference?
COMPARISON.
As simple as that.
In the novel, there's a part where Vinod/Emily says society needs them more then they do.
And,if you really think about it,it's true.
Without them,we won't feel as superior. We have nobody "bad" to compare with and hence,we won't really feel or see that we're good (while....at least better than someone else).
So,the main point is,the mentally ill are like a "comparison material" to make us feel more superior.

Cheryl.

There's a reason for the title.
I need the mentally ill so that I can compare them with myself.
If there is no mentally ill in this society,it is not possible to compare.
We cannot compare the highs and lows,
our abilities, capabilities, talents, if everybody is the same.
Thus, having the mentally ill as part of our society is important.
Though,not for them,but for us.

Iszar.

Dear Cheryl and Iszar,
I think both of you got it right--it's ultimately a comparison for a personal agenda. Can both of you tell me if there is any instance in your life where you are guilty of this comparison? Would love to hear from you. :)
